Legacy and SignificanceAnzick-1 leaves a lasting legacy in a very human way. Not only is the genetic legacy of his people apparent in Native Americans today, the people who worked with him leave an ethical legacy for better future relationships between Native Americans and scientists. After the tension created by the Kennewick Man research, the involvement of the surrounding tribes during the Anzick study had a mutually respectful ethical outcome. In fact, many Kennewick tribes attended the burial ceremony of Anzick-1. Anzick-1 gives them hope that Kennewick Man may someday be re-interred.

Final ThoughtsScience is a human pursuit, and all that Anzick-1 has given us provides us with deep human connections. This story of great migrations and human interactions shows us a little more of who we are. The love with which Anzick-1 was buried is profound and is what allowed him to teach us so much. Now, 12,600 years later, the child has been laid to rest again. The boy who died at such a young age left a legacy longer than anyone could have imagined, touching the lives of many.
